Silas Chester, '16South Bend, IN native and George Williams College sustainability and environmental management major Silas Chester divides his time between work and study. In addition to his coursework, campus work experience and involvement in numerous student activities including becoming president of the Fusion Club, a social acceptance group and vice president of the Responsible Solutions Club, which introduces campus to eco-friendly plans, he holds two part-time positions at community businesses, the Green Grocer in Williams Bay and Delavan retail clothing store Rue 21.“These jobs allow me to get to know people in the community and tell them more about my GWC experience,” said Chester.
As an advocate for the college, leading campus tours, Chester explains one of the biggest reasons that he chose GWC. “I call it the Cheers effect, ‘sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name.’”
Taking advantage of the region, he enjoys exploring neighboring towns including visiting coffee shops in Fontana, shopping at local retailers in Delevan and having a bite with friends in Lake Geneva. Chester has also discovered the great advantage of GWC's lake location, hiking trails and unlimited star-gazing.
