A variety of positions are available to students through the Work Experience Program. All roles contribute to the essential workings of the college and require a high degree of professionalism. Every position within the program provides participants with insight into their skills and passions and key experience sought by employers.

Work Experience Program positions include:

  • Office of Admissions
    • Office Assistant: Learn the essential tasks of office operation in this pivotal role. Maintain files, answer phones, greet guests and provide campus and admission information, enter data, receive and distribute incoming mail/prepare outgoing mail, assist with events and staff member travel arrangements, and other duties as assigned.

    • Student Recruiter: Serve as a George Williams ambassador. Work one-on-one with prospective students. Answer questions, provide admission materials, arrange campus visits and meetings with faculty and staff members, and relay your personal experience as a George Williams student. Help plan and work admission events for prospective students.

    • Phone-a-thon Worker/Coordinator: Be the voice of George Williams. Help coordinate admission and alumni phone-a-thons. Engage in meaningful conversation with prospective students and alumni. Relay your personal experience as a current George Williams student and update people on campus happenings. Strengthen community bonds, network, and gain key communications skills.

    • Tour Guide: Take pride in your campus! Tour prospective students, parents, and visitors around George Williams. Work closely with admission and development staff members, while gaining critical presentation, storytelling, and communication skills.
  • Business Office
    • Mailroom Assistant: Learn all the essential functions of the mailroom. Sort, post, and redirect mail for internal and external deliveries; operate postage meters and scales; prepare packages and mail for delivery and distribution; serve as a mail carrier; provide top-level customer service, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Campus Safety
    • Student Safety Officer: Ensure the safety and order of our campus community. Assist campus safety officers in their work; serve as an escort to cars and campus buildings; assist with room lockouts and after-hours building access; perform routine patrols of campus; know and enforce college regulations and policies; work closely with campus EMT staff and Williams Bay Police and Fire Departments, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Communications
    • Website Assistant: It’s a digital age. Help maintain George Williams’ online presence. Write compelling web copy, design web pages, create surveys and other online tools, perform page audits, code, enforce search engine optimization, monitor Google analytics and other measurements, and other duties as assigned.

    • Social Networking Assistant: Like, pin, and tweet for George Williams! Create compelling stories and tell them through social media. Maintain an editorial calendar, perform interviews, write and research stories, write for and shoot videos, respond to audience comments and questions, track success of posts, aid with social media strategy.

    • Student Blogger: Tell your George Williams story. Student bloggers maintain blogs about their George Williams experience for prospective students and other members of the George Williams College community. Become skilled in voice and tone; utilize a variety of communication methods from text to photography to audio and video; serve as a positive face for George Williams, and other duties as assigned.
  • Conference Services
    • Sales Assistant: Welcome perspective guests and assist them in touring facilities, identify potential clients and consult them on how we can best meet their needs, assist in writing sales proposals and help with office maintenance, monitor trends in the meetings and events industry, create presentations about our offerings, manage prospect database, and other duties as assigned.

    • Front Desk Assistant: Assist in all facets of front desk operation from answering phones and managing paperwork to greeting guests and providing information about our campus and facilities. Must have excellent communication skills, an upbeat attitude, superior organizational skills, and the ability to manage details.

    • Event Management Assistant: Help promote our facilities to potential guests, assist in scheduling events, work with clients on event details from lodging and catering to audio-visual and conference needs, aid vendors with deliveries, prepare event materials (nametags, registration lists, seating cards, programs, etc.), staff events and help with clean up, and other duties as assigned.
  • Facilities
    • Groundskeeper: Keep our campus looking beautiful. Plant and prune shrubs, trees, and flowers; water grounds and perform irrigation activities; remove debris, snow, and ice from walking areas; assist in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces; operate trucks and equipment as required; learn about horticulture and sustainable landscaping, and other duties as assigned.

    • Maintenance Assistant: Help keep our campus in proper, working order. Intake maintenance requests and aid in distributing work orders; complete daily maintenance needs; inspect campus facilities and equipment to ensure proper functioning; work with tools, ladders, and maintenance supplies as directed; provide quality customer service, and other duties as assigned.
  • Food Service
    • College Inn Worker: Are you a social personality? Do you have great communication skills? Want to learn about entrepreneurialism and running a small business? Work at the College Inn! You’ll provide excellent customer service, learn about food preparation and catering, check inventory and stock shelves, work with vendors, clean and maintain equipment, and other duties as assigned.

    • Dining Hall Worker: Gain essential skills in this fast-paced role. Duties include: customer service, food preparation, inventory, stocking, maintaining sanitary work stations, catering, cleaning/maintenance of equipment, and other duties as assigned. This is an ideal position for those interested in culinary arts, marketing and events, and entrepreneurialism.
  • Guest Services
    • Housekeeper: Help make George Williams an inviting place to visit and stay. Clean all rooms to which you are assigned: dust, mop, vacuum, sweep, etc. Maintain all equipment and comply with the regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Brainstorm creative ways to make our campus grounds and buildings more appealing, provide exceptional customer service to guests, and other duties as assigned.

    • Custodial Assistant: Join the custodial staff in this essential role. Duties include: vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, and general cleaning of assigned rooms; shoveling snow and removing debris from walking areas; garbage removal; set-up and take down for special events, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Information Technology
    • IT Support: Academics and Conferencing: Have a love for technology and computers? This job is for you. The IT support person assists with the day-to-day support and troubleshooting of all hardware and software and computer equipment for academics and conferencing. Duties include: hardware and software maintenance, troubleshoot and correct hardware and software computer and network problems, assist with the maintenance and operation of workstations, schedule backups, offer technical support in-person and by phone, develop user guides with policies and procedures, and other duties as assigned.
  • Library
    • Research Assistant: Advise students and professors with research and technical questions; help locate books, magazines, and other articles; help with searches; assist with the flow and organization of library materials; sort, shelve, file, and route materials; maintain, preserve, and monitor equipment; take inventory and order supplies; collect data and statistics; provide administrative support, and other duties as assigned.
  • Meyer Hall
    • Office Assistant: We can’t do it without you! Become an office assistant for Meyer Hall. Answer phones; take and distribute messages; greet guests, provide information, and direct them to the appropriate person; receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail; fax, scan, and copy documents; maintain office filing and storage systems; update and maintain databases; type documents and correspondence; ensure office equipment is maintained and serviced; run errands, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Registration and Records
    • Office Assistant: Have an interest in higher education? Become an office assistant for the Office of Registration and Records. Process transcript and course registration requests; maintain databases and office filing and storage systems; greet guests and answer questions; update course descriptions; receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail; fax, scan, and copy documents; type documents and correspondence; ensure office equipment is maintained and serviced; run errands, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Student Services
    • Resource Center Assistant: Assist with all aspects of resource center operations. Enact a high level of customer service; answer questions and provide information about our resources; schedule tutoring appointments and meetings with career counselors and writing aids; coordinate reasonable accommodations for students with physical and learning disabilities; help students utilize George Williams Collegetechnology, including Moodle and WebAdvisor; tour prospective students and guests, and other duties as assigned.

    • Office Assistant: Help manage the essential operations of the Office of Student Life. Answer phones; take and distribute messages; greet guests, provide information, and direct them to the appropriate person; receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail; fax, scan, and copy documents; maintain office filing and storage systems; update and maintain databases; type documents and correspondence; ensure office equipment is maintained and serviced; run errands, and other duties as assigned.
  • Office of Student Life
    • Outdoor Equipment Rental Supervisor: Love sports and athletic equipment? We’ve got the job for you. Organize and maintain equipment; complete rental paperwork; provide instruction on proper use of equipment; enforce all safety precautions and policies and procedures; coordinate with other student life staff members on equipment needs; stay up-to-date on safety standards and modern athletics equipment; engage in a high level of customer service; open and close rental office; keep the office tidy, and other duties as assigned.

    • Intramural Activities Coordinator: If you have a love of the game, you’ll be right at home as George Williams’ intramural activities coordinator. In this role, you will: plan, schedule, and supervise program activities, including meetings, practice schedules, games, and tournaments; enforce guidelines and rules for intramural and club sports games; assist with policy development and implementation, risk and financial management, and any travel planning; keep track of and inspect sports equipment and supplies inventory, and other duties as assigned.

    • Fitness Room Supervisor: If staying active is your passion, you’ll love working as a fitness room supervisor. You will: welcome, greet, and provide assistance to guests; monitor and enforce policies and safety procedures; communicate updates and announcements; organize and update the front desk, magazines, and equipment; exhibit excellent customer service, including resolving guest concerns and answering facility- and program-related questions; clean equipment, vacuum, pick-up trash, and do general cleaning; keep equipment in proper working order; assist with special programs and events, and other duties as assigned.

    • Peer Advisor: Do you have an outgoing personality, excellent communication skills, and a love for George Williams? Apply to be a peer advisor. Peer advisors assist current and prospective students with their academic, personal, and professional needs. They connect students with George Williams’ resources, including tutoring, career counseling, and writing help; answer informational phone lines and respond to questions via email; provide information regarding housing, extracurricular activities, and campus events; help organize and execute events; promote diversity and inclusivity and make all students feel welcome on campus, and other duties as assigned.
